The first step was organising some models via our Model Search. It was lots of fun to see everyone’s pics but SO hard to select some winners. I ended up with 8 kids in total. 5 girls and 3 boys. I have done my share of Kids photo shoots the past 13 years and know full well how unpredictable kids can be. The younger they are the harder it can be also. I find the best age for direction and cooperation is 4-5yrs. However saying that sometimes the 1-3 years olds can be the CUTEST!!!. Anyway we had a mix and also had the kids scheduled in two time slots to avoid them waiting around too long and also to see how interacted with each other.
We scouted for locations and I managed to find the perfect spot on one of my runs along the Merri Creek track. It is such a great spot in the middle of the city and surrounded by bushland. Then we had to hope the weather held out for us. Melbourne in the middle of Winter is never going to be easy. The days before rain came in thick and fast and I kept a close look on the forecast!! Lucky for us it turned out okay. And lucky for the kids the shoot was using all our Winter coats, beanies and scarfs!!!
I was desperate to use a Floral crown after seeing many pics recently on Pinterest and Instagram featuring gorgeous ones. I managed to track down a florist who lives in almost the same street as me Petra from Pomp and Splendour and she came up with the most gorgeous crown in 2 days!. We loved it.
I had a pretty clear vision in mind for the photo shot but knew I would need help pulling it all together and lugging all the product up and down the hills. Astrid from Stylstyl who has now styled many fashion shoots came along to assist. I had warned her that working with kids could be hectic and she thought she knew what was coming! Ha! Well she was a little overwhelmed but handled everything extremely well.
I had organised a super cool Such Great Heights khaki wonder tent and also borrowed a few things from my friends at Nook Vintage behind my store. The pom pom garland is from our supplier Down to the Woods and the other items are nearly all from the our shop. We layered the tent and surrounding rug with Kip and Co velvet pillows and cushions as well as some gorgoeus Pony Rider aztec cushions and stunning Hydrangea throw.
Our fabulous photographer was Danielle Trovato and she had the kids moving around our scene and in the surrounding areas really well. I can’t wait to share the actual pics of the day with you!!
In the meantime here are some behind the scenes from the day.
